Confession Of A Work-At-Home Control Freak

Trying to control too much, for a work at home business owner, can lead to ruination of both personal and working life.

Not everything is under your control. This is the very statement that I’ve said to myself over and over again ever since I’ve started working from home. One note to those who wish to start their own home-based business, please, please, please….heed my advice. Learn to draw the line between home and work because they’re supposed to be completely different worlds. You can’t live your life properly if you’re working and living at the same time. Work, no matter how passionate you are about it, is not meant to creep into your life. You’re supposed to put it into a separate drawer in your cabinet….imagine your life to be a cabinet. One drawer for your personal life, and then another drawer for your working life. That’s how it’s supposed to work.

What’s with control and working-from-home?
LOTS, if you ask me! You need to be in control of your work in order to make a profit. You need to be in control so that your kids do well in school. You need to be in control so that you don’t accidentally shred important documents. If you’re working from home, you’ll find yourself trying to be control of everything and that can’t happen.

It can’t happen now and it can’t happen any time in the future. Accept the fact that if you want everything to be working out properly, you’ll need to relinquish some of that control and let others take over.

What happens when you try to control everything?
Everything collapses, that’s the answer. Because we’re not made to be in control of everything that we do, see, experience, feel and situations that happens to us, we shouldn’t even try to. Working from home could mean the best of both worlds…but don’t forget, you’re also getting the worst of both worlds.

To prevent your ship from sinking, you’ll need to learn to let some things go. Unless you have someone else who can take over some parts of your work or home life, then you’re going to have to accept the fact that nothing in your working-at-home environment is ever going to be perfecto.

Nothing.

A ruined working life and a ruined home life
When one tries to take control of everything, that person would and can only expect one thing….ruination of both personal and work life simply because the fine line between work and life has been blurred. In reality, the ideal is for people to work for a living and then LIVE. With a blurred line between home and work, how is one expected to live well and work well.

Be aware and conscious of what you’re trying to control
Is it worth trying so hard to control something that you can’t? Think about it. At what expense? Before you throw yourself into your home office business, try to remember that you’ll always have to be aware of priorities and the sacrifices that you’re willing to make in order for you to control that part of your life or work. Something’s got to give somehow, somewhere and really, it’s really up to you to decide, what part of your home business has to give way.

Data Entry Work at Home - Dos and Don’ts

Data entry work at home means understanding and working within some guidelines although they tend to be less restrictive in nature. Here are a few commonsense rules to consider.

Those who have been doing data entry work at home for any length of time realize that there are things about the home based work opportunity that can cause problems for you if you aren’t aware of the pitfalls. Being cognizant of the difficulties and dangers and making plans to avoid them will help you to have a smooth transition from corporate worker bee to home based entrepreneur. Most of the suggestions of things to do and things to avoid are simple common sense items. Being aware of possible potholes in your career path will help you to negotiate the dangers more efficiently.

Do pick your jobs

When you are first getting into data entry work at home either as a full-income replacement or as a part-time income supplement, you may feel that you must take anything you can get, reasoning that you will manage to do the work, somehow. You are much wiser to recognize that the learning curve is in effect with this type of work, too so you should start by holding back a little. Know your strong points where work is concerned and don’t let the desire for immediately replacing income allow you to agree to do jobs which you have neither the experience nor the time to complete. Your reputation will suffer if you commit to work you cannot do.

Do pay attention to deadlines

Often data entry work at home comes with fairly strict deadlines for completion. If you accept the work, you are also committing to get it done on time as agreed. Particularly if you are new at this type of work, or if you have accepted a new client that you do not know well, you should be cautious about rushing the work to meet a deadline. Instead, allow for a longer return time before agreeing to the work, or alternatively, have back up personnel standing by to help you out in a pinch.

Don’t overestimate your capabilities

When you first begin doing data entry work at home, you should stick to work that you know and have done before. In other words, don’t take on a job doing medical transcription if you have no knowledge of the terminology. There are so many different types of data entry jobs, you are certain to find something that will fit within your comfort and experience range. Remember, your future opportunity to complete more data entry work will depend on the reputation you develop.

Don’t forget to proofread

No matter what type of data entry work at home that you do, be particularly careful about your level of accuracy. Nothing less than perfect documents should be the goal you set for yourself. If you are not good at catching and correcting errors in your own work, you would be wise to ask someone to proofread the document for you before sending it off to the client. You owe it to your clients to create work that looks professional and doesn’t contain errors in spelling, grammar or punctuation.

What You Should Consider Before Taking Up a Work From Home Job

Make Money by Submitting Photos To The Internet

Working at home is one of the fastest growing trends in careers today. However, many people jump on the Wahm bandwagon without considering all of the drawbacks to working at home. While some people are naturally inclined to work at home, others find the transition more difficult to make. There are many benefits to working at home, but the drawbacks need to be considered before you make the choice.

The first drawback to looking for a work at home career is that your current career may not easily transfer to a work at home situation. If you work in the medical field or are a police officer, being a Wahm might not be an easy transition unless you are willing to change careers entirely. Sales and administrative positions transfer well, as do creative jobs like design and writing. For those in jobs that can’t make the work at home switch, you’ll have to think carefully about what you want to do when start working at home and start investigating that field.

Cost is another important factor in deciding if working at home is right for you. Although many mothers start working at home to save on childcare, there are added costs to being a Wahm. If you need health insurance, it will have to come out of your pocket instead of being paid by your employers. There are also many taxes that you will have to pay. Your record keeping must be excellent in order to keep track of your income and expenses, and to fill out your income tax return at the end of the year.

Working at home with children is not always as easy as it seems. If you have young children that aren’t in school yet, it may be difficult to work when they are awake. This can mean lots of busy naptimes and late nights to get your projects done when they are sleeping. Family members can help take care of your children from time to time, but the responsibility of both your children and your job will be firmly in your hands. With older children, it is sometimes easier to work from home. But you will still have to start and maintain a fairly balanced schedule in order to get everything done.

Wahms have to be very self-motivated and disciplined in order to get their work done on time and correctly. If you are the type of person that is motivated by outside factors (such as a supervisor), then working at home may not be your cup of tea. When you work at home, there is no one there to look over your shoulder and make sure that you are still working. Distractions like the television, Internet and housework can be hindrances to your work at home success.

Isolation is another problem for Wahms. Working at home alone can get frustrating and lonely. Make sure you are comfortable with spending time alone, and that you take steps to combat isolation. If you are especially prone to being depressed, then the isolation that comes with working at home may make you feel withdrawn and sad. Taking steps to combat loneliness is an important part of any Wahm’s success.

After considering these factors, you may decide that working at home is not right for you. However, thousands of people deal with these drawbacks and still have successful work at home careers. These reasons should not stop you from becoming a Wahm if that is really what you want to do. Just make sure you understand the realities of the work at home lifestyle before you commit to it.

Here’s to your being a "Work At Home Mom" success

What To Look For When Searching for a Legitimate Work At Home Business

Searching for a legitimate work at home business is like looking for the perfect job. There are many out there, but you have to know where and how to look.

I’m sure we can all agree that looking for a job is the toughest job you will ever have, so many of us attempt to by pass the stress created by working offline by focusing our money making efforts online.

However, online, the search becomes even more daunting. There are so many opportunities and within all those opportunities lie scams, cons and all sorts of ways to swindle people out of their money. Your task is even more difficult because not only are you looking for a work at home business that meets your needs you are also looking for a legitimate work at home business.

It’s not always easy to tell whether or not an online business is a genuine money making opportunity. But one red flag sign everyone can look for is contact information. Look around the website for some form of contact- a phone number, email address, business address, anything that you could use to get in touch with a real person.

A legitimate work at home business will provide you with at least two forms of contact because they understand that customer service is the life blood of their business. Providing you with a way to get in touch with them is about more than just filling white space on their webpage, it’s to let you know that they are there if you need them. And at some point of your work at home career you will need them.

If you can not contact a real person something is wrong and you are not working with a legit work at home business. There are several reasons why you should be apprehensive but the most important is that without correct contact information you will receive no mentoring.

All legitimate work at home businesses offer some form of mentoring. These companies want to make money, in order to do so they need to help you make money. If the company sends you an ebook and leaves you to fend for yourself you most likely have signed up for something other than a legit work at home businesses. Without mentoring you will most
likely fail. You need some assistance so you can properly understand the work at home job and what you need to do to be successful.

Credible work at home businesses have clearly drawn out instructions about the tasks you will need to perform, they provide resources to help you succeed, and there is someone you can contact to ask questions. They will not leave you hanging. If you are in a work at home business and you’re feeling lost and very much alone you may not be working with a legitimate online company.

Another thing you should look for are requirements. Legitimate work at home jobs usually post basic job requirements. Every job requires some skill; a legitimate home-based job will be clear on what they are looking for. Genuine work at home businesses, just like any job, are looking for something. Thus they will screen people to see who is a good fit for the job. Be wary of jobs that claim that virtually anyone can do it. Even if all the job entails is the ability to read and fill out surveys, the website will still give a guideline on what they want.

Bottom line, the more information you are provided with the better. Do thorough research to find out as much as you can. Ask questions, not just from the owners of the company but those who have joined it. If at any point you are feeling that something is wrong, are getting vague answers or if it’s just too good to be true, you may have to pass up on it and continue your search for a legitimate work at home business.
